Global Ambassador Program
Mission of an Ambassador:
To serve as an advocate for international education through
outreach, community engagement and education.
Objectives:
To
encourage and support student participation in study abroad programs offered
through the Office of Study Abroad & International Experiences.
To
promote international education by developing and strengthening collaborative
relationships between the Office of Study Abroad & International
Experiences and the campus community.
Why Are Global Ambassadors so Important?
You are the voice of experience, having successfully
completed a study abroad program. As a
student, you hold a perspective that is different than that of faculty, staff
and administrators. You know about the
curiosities that students have prior to travelling abroad. As a student who has studied abroad, you know
of the common questions that students want to ask but sometimes never do. You may have had similar concerns and your
insight can enable other students to embrace studying abroad. As a student, you are also involved in the
UMass Lowell community and can identify ways to expose other students to study
abroad. As a Global Ambassador providing
an international perspective, you are a valued, contributing member of the
Office of Study Abroad & International Experiences and the UMass Lowell
community.
Overview of Responsibilities:
As a Global Ambassador, your role is to share your study
abroad experience and international perspective with members of the UMass
Lowell community. Below is an overview
of your responsibilities:
Advising, Outreach
& Programming:
- Serve
as a student representative of the Office of Study Abroad & International
Experiences and as a resource to students interested in or returning from study
abroad.
- Present
at Information Sessions and Panel Discussions alongside the Office of Study
Abroad and International Experience’s staff.
- Hold
two (2) “Study Abroad Information Tables” per semester.
- Promote
studying abroad at the UMass Lowell Study Abroad Fair.
- Assist
in classroom presentations and country-specific information sessions as
appropriate.
- Assist
in the coordination and staffing of pre-departure orientation and re-entry
programming for students preparing to, and returning from, study abroad.
Other:
- Contribute
ideas, feedback, and suggestions from the student perspective to assist the
Office of Study Abroad & International Experiences in internationalizing
the campus and to assist in developing and implementing programs and services.
- Attend
meetings as required by the Office of Study Abroad & International
Experiences.
Qualifications to become a Global
Ambassador:
In order to serve as a Global Ambassador, students must:
- Be a
full-time registered student at UMass Lowell.
- Have
studied abroad on an approved UMass Lowell study abroad program.
- Demonstrate
a commitment to international education and travel, and a desire and
enthusiasm for promoting study abroad throughout the UMass Lowell
community.
- Show a
level of professionalism and conscientiousness in the advice given to
prospective students.
- Be
outgoing, approachable, friendly, open-minded and confident in giving
public presentations and in initiating conversations with a diverse body
of students regarding study abroad.
