Program Description

The Hessen-Massachusetts exchange program provides enrolled students at one of the University of Massachusetts System universities with the opportunity to get international experience by studying abroad at one of the five Hessen International Summer Universities (ISU) or by enrolling in one of the participating Hessen universities, universities of applied sciences (Fachhochschulen) and art academies for one or two academic semesters. This experience will not only give you the chance to live in Germany and learn the language, but also adds a European dimension to your academic carreer.

The State of Hessen is situated in the heart of the Federal Republic of Germany and is home to some of the country's leading universities and research institutes, all of which are within easy reach of Frankfurt am Main, Germany's financial and banking center.

The UMass-Hessen Exchange represents a special alliance between the universities of the State of Hessen and those of the University of Massachusetts.

The exchange provides a partial scholarship, greatly reducing fees for UMass participants from those published on the Hessen university websites. All US citizens and US green card holders are eligible for the scholarship rates.

Semester - $3500 (tuition and fees for 12-18 credits) for In-state students, $4000 for regional proximity students, $4500 for Out-of-State students

Additional Information:
The semester programs primarily require proficiency in the German language to participate. There are 2 programs that do not have this requirement:

IUSP in Marburg, German http://www.uni-marburg.de/iusp/
Social Work Program in Fulda, Germany http://www.hs-fulda.de/index.php?id=5025

DAAD: The German Academic Exchange Service offers various scholarship opportunities to study in Germany. More information can be found on the scholarship search web site: http://www.daad.de/deutschland/stipendium/en/
